Hiding from New Adventures? Who, me? 😬😇 (You too? 😉)

Let’s talk about YOU for a sec, and how you can totally start celebrating those new, adventurous opportunities you’ve been kinda afraid of for a while 😘

Fear is like a comfy pair of shoes sometimes— we feel it so gosh darn often! And I’ll be honest, fear is always my very first got-to gut-reaction to any exciting opportunity that comes my way. Is it the same for you?

It’s not always straight up terror— sometimes it feels like avoidance: the way you’ll start 9,000 other small tasks to avoid a new responsibility. Or sometimes it might feel like negativity: focusing on 3,000 reasons how this new thing could totally suck.

Fear is sneaky like that, (dang it!) It can just pop into our behaviors before we can even acknowledge that it’s really fear that’s holding us back.

And it’s because growth can be uncomfy.
New opportunities offer new ways to fail.
Adventures can lead to places you might not like.

Sometimes you just plain old want to hide from that scary new adventure. This was totally me allllll last week 🙄🤓

This week? It’s all about jumping off the high-dive, feet-first into that uncomfy space and making it fun!

Feeling fear will probably always be my go-to gut reaction when I encounter a new path in my life. Buuut that’s only until I talk myself into “champing up” and doing something about it! And then?

It’s time to celebrate the excitement! (And what better way to do that than with copious quantities of post-it’s and Lizzo playing fabulously in the background? 🥳🤓)

And while champing yourself up sounds AWESOMMME, it doesn’t always feel easy.

Or it’s hard to know where to start.

And that’s because learning to hype yourself into confidence can take time and consistency. (The actual steps aren’t even usually hard— it’s the whole building habits thing that can feel hard as heck. But then again, that’s why you’ve got me with you on your journey!! 💪😀)

There’re definitely some mindset habits that make it easier once you start using them regularly! (Because there are always going to be SO MANY times in this life when we’re gonna want to hide from something great because newness is uncomfy, and because when it comes to the fear of failure, the struggle is REAL. (Legit, that’s one of my BIGGEST fears!)

Buuuuuuuut, we can’t accomplish great things if we make decisions according to our fears. (Dang it!) So we can bulk up our mindset habits to help to ease the path to confident adventure!

If you were in my beautiful squishy brain, you’d hear me tell myself things like this alllllll the time:

🧠 “Okay but like you can’t live in fear though, sooooooooo just go make it happen.”
🧠 “Nope, too bad, you actually can’t just avoid it forever, GO DO THE THING!”
🧠 “Well fuck it, a secret tiny part of you wants to do it, so just DO IT, dude.”

(My inner brain swears like a sailor. Evidently that’s effective for it 😂😂😂)

And the point here isn’t so much saying exactly what I say (although you totally can! Use what you need, babe!) The point is moreso to talk to yourself like this consistently.

I could talk about the power of positive self-talk for DAYS! It’s SO beneficial to change the way you talk to yourself if you’re looking to amp up your confidence!

And You are SO deserving of confidence, sweet friend 😘 We’re in this together!

I founded Brave Heart Open Mind, this enthusiastic self-love development studio, in an effort to empower women with the ability to live their happiest, most confident lives!

Because I’ve walked the path of feeling like I wasn’t good enough— drowning in self-doubt and self-hate— and it genuinely straight up sucks. (It does, for real. If you’ve been there— ugly-crying on cold floral linoleum— you know it’s true).

Part of the entire existence of Brave Heart Open Mind is to allow me to help you get to where I am— in a place of self-love; in a place of consistent confidence; in a place of self-empowerment! And to help you get there faster than I did. 😅🤩

It took me over a decade to get to where I am today.

From my own rock bottom— sitting at the end of an emotionally abusive relationship, fully depressed, with imbalanced hormones, halfway through college, unable to do anything other than barely hang on and pretend I was fine, (when really my self-image was a total dumpster fire on the inside). There were real moments of sobbing-on-the-floor feelings of wretchedness, catatonic-in-bed feelings of hopelessness, and hiding-blades-from-myself urges of self-harm during this time.

Medication to balance my hormones helped regulate my brain chemistry to smooth back the depression and darkness, but I was still left with a completely trashed self-image. I wanted to love myself, and it took me over a decade to figure out how to actually make that happen.

My personal journey over the course of that decade has thankfully brought me all the way to where I am now: the founder of an amazing and fulfilling business, totally loving my life!

And if I can help you skip the trudging, slow-as-heck, mountain climb out of the trenches of self-doubt and self-hate, and streamline a decade for you— like, that’s amazing! Why wouldn’t I help you? How could I not??

And through painstakingly building positive lifelong habits for myself, I’ve paved a new path: One where I consistently push myself to grow, feel good enough, and live in a place of calm, centered confidence.

And these habits aren’t magic— anyone can learn them! Everyone deserves to learn them. They’re rooted in solid verbal communication skills, body language tactics, and powerful mindset shifts. Meshing these three skillsets together creates a powerful range of habits that can make any lovely human feel confident! All you have to do is learn them and consistently work hard to practice them throughout your life. When you’re ready to commit to yourself, when you’re ready to finally let yourself feel good enough, when you’re ready to live a life of confidence, I can help you learn and practice these habits! You’re worth it 😀 (You SO are!)

I’m also a total scifi nerd 🤓

I can’t wait for us to work together! Seriously, we’ll be a force to be reckoned with! You’ll learn such powerful new habits, and you’ll feel so much power in the confidence that you’ve unlocked! Heck yes!!

In other nerdy news, you should also know that I’m a total geek and an avid life-long learner: I am certified to teach public speaking (and more!) with a Bachelors Degree in Mass Communication & Journalism and a Masters Degree in Education by the University of Nebraska at Omaha. I am certified as a Life & Success Coach, Hypnotherapist, and NLP, EFT, and TIME Practitioner by the International Board of Coaches and Practitioners. I’m currently pursuing my certification as a Master Practitioner by the IBCP, as well as my certification in The Science of Well-Being by Yale University 🤓

  1. Good morning 🌞
My daughter is 11 and has been learning to live with panic/anxiety since she was very very young.
Last month she had to had heart surgery for SVT. She had a coronary ablation and it’s seems to have fixed the heart issue ❤️
But she is still struggling with anxiety.
Over the past couple years we’ve been in therapy, meditating, journaling, exercising ...you know the drill I’m sure.
Still my little one was sort of stuck in this space of knowing what’s wrong but not having a lot of success in knowing how to manage it. Before the surgery it was really sort of survival mode.
Now we are passed surgery but still in a very real cycle of PTSD from having to be in school the first half of the year with a very scary heart.
The mornings have been so hard! Just gripped with panic getting out of the car and walking into school was HARD!! She has a great counselor at school but when the monsters are inside your head it’s hard for anyone to help.
So this morning we talked about how freakin brave she is and how we have been able to diagnose what wrong but now we need to work on finding ways to function in a healthier way.
So I googled something like “how to manage a new adventure when you’re scared” and I found your article!!!
WOW!! Did she relate to you ✨❤️✨
She has a meeting today at school about “Outdoor Ed” where the sixth grade spends 5 days at a sleep away camp. Needless to say she is NOT stoked about this BUT we read your article and there seems to have been a shift in her thinking. When we got close to school instead of breathing heavy and crying the closer we got, we talked about how her fear was coming with her anyway so might as well give it a cookie and keep it occupied during the walk to class. She loved it!! Fed her fear an imaginary cookie in her right ear and told it to stay in its crate (dog training reference.)
She Took a deep breath and got out of the car WITH A SMILE 😃 what they heck?!?!🥰🥰🥰🥰
I just have to thank you for writing about this!!!
You are me hero on this glorious Thursday!!!!

    1. This warms my heart to read! I'm so happy you and your daughter found a path to some great, helpful conversation 💛 (And I'm sorry my reply is so late! My tech guy had a weird setting on our comments section, I think. It should be fixed now 🤓)
